Listen to Podcast Episode 5 Now and Discover Why Our Heart Is the Safest Place to Be!

The fifth episode of our new podcast series – “Our Spiritual Heart” is now available! Listen to “Our Heart Is the Safest Place to Be” using the player below or on Spotify! Co-hosted by Kelsey Anderson and Kathy Grant, psychologist Ed Rubenstein, Ph.D. will be discussing, among other topics, some of the common misconceptions people have about opening our spiritual heart. Dr. Ed shares that the first misconception is a big one – “I will get hurt if I open my heart.” Feelings of abandonment, rejection and being brokenhearted can be extremely painful and scary, but these feelings are not related to the opening of our spiritual heart. When we felt wounded in the past, our spiritual heart was actually not opened and we must look at our attachments, expectations, unresolved issues, emotional entanglements, and overreactions as the cause. Opening our spiritual heart doesn’t hurt us at all, it actually helps us on so many levels.

Will I be Able to Say No If I open My Spiritual Heart? Yes!

In Ed’s role as a Ph.D. level psychologist, he spent many years diligently teaching numerous mind-body interventions and mind based meditation approaches in a variety of clinical settings; and as he discusses, he was very committed to sharing these approaches. However, nearly 25 years ago, he realized through his own heart-felt experiences that these mind based methods were limited and that our heart was the missing ingredient to address and access the spiritual dimension of our lives. In this episode, Dr. Ed also discusses the misperception that if open our heart we won’t be able to say no and we’ll be taken advantage of by others. If we need to say no, we can be firm, engage in tough love, and remain heart centered while our spiritual heart is open. He also opens the topic of past religious dogma and its impact on choosing spirituality and how opening our spiritual heart is universal regardless of religion or cultural upbringing.
