The sixth episode of our new podcast series – “Our Spiritual Heart” is now available! Listen to Part 2 of “Our Heart Is the Safest Place to Be” using the player below or on Spotify! Co-hosted by Kelsey Anderson and Kathy Grant, psychologist Ed Rubenstein, Ph.D. will be discussing, among other topics, some of the common misconceptions people have about opening our spiritual heart. Dr. Ed shares that another misconception is a big one – “I will pick up other people’s negative energy if my heart opens.” After many years of working with human service professionals who are dealing with burnout and compassion fatigue, Dr. Ed discusses that we are actually the most vulnerable to being influenced by our environment when our heart is contracted and explains the impact of horizontal emotional entanglements with those suffering or in distress and our nurturing and sacred vertical connection with True Source.
The greatest treasure of all is experiencing our spiritual heart
In Ed’s role as a Ph.D. level psychologist, he spent many years diligently teaching numerous mind-body interventions and mind based meditation approaches in a variety of clinical settings; and as he discusses, he was very committed to sharing these approaches. However, nearly 25 years ago, he realized through his own heart-felt experiences that these mind based methods were limited and that our heart was the missing ingredient to address and access the spiritual dimension of our lives. In this episode, Dr. Ed also discusses the misperception that if our heart really opens, we many lose control of who we really are. In discussing this common fear, Ed shares that the only risk in trading a less dominant mind for an open spiritual heart is living a more peaceful, happy, less burdened, and meaningful life!
